Gamet Bearings have been manufacturing high precision tapered roller bearings for over forty years (since 1956) in their Colchester factory. Originally founded to serve the machine tool industry, Gamet has today expanded into other sectors of industry having high precision bearing requirements.
These include the coating of materials, photographic emulsions or adhesives, and the printing and packaging industries. Ongoing investment in new equipment and technology will ensure the continuing reputation of Gamet as a manufacturer of high precision, high quality bearings
Acquisition by HB Bearings, 2019
Huddersfield engineering company HB Bearings, which has been manufacturing precision ball and roller bearings since 1972, acquired Colchester-based Gamet Bearings in June 2019. The deal was closed in October 2019.
HB serves a variety of customers, from machine tool manufactures to the elite of motorsport in F1 and specialises in the design, development and manufacture of bespoke, low volume, high precision bearings.
Gamet has a global reputation within the industry and shares many characteristics with HB, offering specialist manufacture of low volume, high precision taper roller bearings. The acquisition will therefore expand HB’s product portfolio significantly.
Although HB has been able to support its customers’ taper roller bearing needs, it has never truly been able to offer extensive, design, support and development – until now. HB believes the acquisition of Gamet is a major step forward, enabling the business to offer a variety of solutions from a single source. Moving forward, the rapidly expanding electric vehicle market and performance transmission systems are high on HB’s agenda.
Graham Hirst, HB Bearings’ managing director commented: “This acquisition will dovetail perfectly with our existing capabilities as we look to strengthen our position in the market. We look forward to working with Gamet’s customers and would like to take this opportunity to thank them for their patience while we re-locate the manufacturing facility to our site.”
HB is currently expanding the facility at its Huddersfield site and has invested heavily in new machinery.

Components of Gamet Tapered Roller Bearings
Gamet bearings consist of four basic components – the inner race (cone), the outer race (cup), tapered rollers and cage. The cone, rollers and cage form an assembly which is separable from the cup.

Check Gamet List of Part Numbers
Plain Cup – The basic single row bearing can be used in light to medium loaded applications, and provides a simple, cost-effective arrangement.
C Type – The flanged cup version enables through boring of the housing for simplicity and accuracy.
G Type – Double row bearings offer nearly twice the capacity of the equivalent single row bearing, and are therefore used in more heavily loaded applications.
H Type – Double row bearings offer nearly twice the capacity of the equivalent single row bearing, and are therefore used in more heavily loaded applications.
P Type – This single row bearing has an extended outer ring, housing a number of springs. It is mounted in conjunction with either a single or double row bearing. As the outer race is free to slide in the housing, the spring force ensures that a constant bearing system preload is maintained despite thermal expansion due to varying temperature conditions
Preparation & Mounting of Gamet Bearings
After inspection, Gamet’s bearings are treated with a corrosion preventative oil, (except pre-greased bearings). Initial packaging is heavy gauge PVC bags, which are heat sealed, and boxed. Bearings can be stored for long periods providing packaging is not damaged and the storage area is dry and not subject to extremes of temperature.
Mounting should be undertaken in clean, dry, dust free conditions away from metal working or other operations producing swarf or dust.
